Ireland’s largest female enterprise event, National Women’s Enterprise Day took place across 16 venues on Thursday, 13 October. Project partners, Momentum lent their support to the Leitrim event and introduced the WeRin project to existing and aspiring female entrepreneurs.
The nationwide events, run by Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) provide a forum for women to listen and learn from other female entrepreneurs, meet role models, network, and find out what supports are available for them in Ireland.
This year’s theme, “Our Future, Our Way” fits aptly with recent research that shows that over 1,400 women are starting a new business in Ireland every month. These 2021 findings of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) also show that 49% of women surveyed believed they had the necessary skills and knowledge to start a business.
The Leitrim event tackled the real-life subjects affecting women in business such as finance, marketing, and innovation but also family, well-being, and mental health. Ably led by Michelle McLoughlin the two keynote speakers Breda McCague and Anne Guckian created a motivating and inspiring atmosphere in which to discuss unconscious bias, inclusive entrepreneurship, and the supports available for women in Ireland.
